S’Arcu ’e is Forros

Villagrande Strisaili (Ogliastra)

At the border between Barbagia and Ogliastra, the settlement of S’Arcu ’e is Forros is one of the most important Nuragic centres where the sacred and metalworking remained intertwined for centuries.

THE PASS OF THE FURNACES

The complex stands at the border between Barbagia and Ogliastra, at Inter Abbas: “between the waters” in Sardinian, for the two streams flowing on either side.

Rich in water, the area was crossed by important transhumance routes.

The settlement developed from the 15th century BC, from the first huts, to include cult places and workshops for metal casting.

While much of the settlement remains to be investigated, today the temples with their ceremonial enclosures, parts of the village and the metalworking structures can be seen.
